hi hi,

so a little update on things.
life is really busy right now and it seems like ever since the holidays things have been on fast forward. i am still publishing a book from my wonderful europe travels, the book is just going to have taken longer than expected to get out. i never fully realized how incredibly difficult it is to put a book together-- it's a learning process though and i already feel a million times more equipped for the next time i decide to make one. because i have so much going on right now though it has had to be put on the back burner, so for those of you asking about it and wondering when it will be ready, just know it's in the works and you will have to be patient. i hope once it's released though you will feel it was worth the wait :)

last weekend i had a great opportunity to shoot an up-and-coming band and while i can't say much about it, i can tell you it was a joy to work with everyone involved and i'm excited for people to see the results.
a few other things worth mentioning:

i did a little interview for Kaltblut Magazine that you can see here.

my work was part of the premiere issue of Sunday Mornings at the River, a lovely little zine. the issue is just beautiful and you can see some images of it here, with 2 of my photos shown in the preview here.

my photos of fellow photographer and now good friend josh, taken while i was in london, were chosen as one of the features in the most recent issue of Boys on Film zine, an extension of the brilliant Girls on Film zine (which i had work featured in a few issues ago, see next bullet).

i had a feature in the 10th issue of Girls on Film zine back in July so i'm quite late in writing about it, but better late than never. it's worth pointing out particularly because the zine is seriously amazing and a breath of fresh air. you can see the issue here and you can see the feature Dazed and Confused did on it here, with a few of my photos in the spotlight.

that's all I can think of. for now.
best best,

x k
i've been in europe for the past 2 months and will be here for at least another month, traveling around & taking photos, having wonderful encounters with people i've just met or known via the internet for years. the photo above is from a random handful of film i had developed after my 1st month. i will be making a photo book of the beautiful places and people i encounter along the way, and i'd like to get a gauge for how many people would be interested in it. assuming it won't be expensive, would you or someone you know be interested? let me know by sending me an email or commenting here! x
Katherine Squierhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18288884451504519640noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2834384025683879676.post-72789736469856575672012-02-15T19:10:00.010-06:002012-02-16T10:31:09.430-06:00Exciting update!

A few updates on some exciting things I'm a part of:

-->Girlcore just released their first book through the wonderful POGO Books and I'm a part of it!

--I was really excited and honored to be featured in "You Are My Favorite," an exhibit featuring 30 women photographers from around the world (15 countries) put together by the lovely Franziska Ebert. Again, I'm among some really amazing company. The exhibit was held July 15 in Hamburg and I would have loved sooo much to have been there, but at least I was there in my spirit with my photos. The list and works of the 30 women featured are here, and the photos of mine featured are here.
Katherine Squierhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18288884451504519640noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2834384025683879676.post-42337000940570504672011-07-26T18:25:00.006-05:002011-07-27T00:57:30.832-05:00
i'm honored to be featured on Booooooom again :)Katherine Squierhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18288884451504519640noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2834384025683879676.post-32098085113456910172011-07-10T15:26:00.003-05:002012-08-18T16:09:19.559-05:00

First off, I want to acknowledge how much I came to fall in love with & appreciate the public transportation in Europe. I miss Europe plenty, and among the many things that I really loved about it was all the ways they were more eco-conscious. One huge way is through their public transportation, the trains and metro specifically. If I had access to a metro system, I would be using it ALL the time, even knowing it would require a lot of walking. And it's incredibly frustrating that I live in one of the most powerful countries in the world and we have barely taken any steps to establish metro systems. Not only would it be more eco-concious, it would help ease the insane chaos of traffic in metro areas as well as enable people who have limited access to transportation get to places more easily. It's a win-win-win. I recognize that we do have some metro systems here, but they are few & very far between. As far as the video, there's not too much to say about it because all the background info is in the video itself. What I will say though is that I think quality of life is everything. & it's all the little, everyday things that make our lives what they are. What is done here is something that not only improves quality of life, but also encourages healthier living. Creativity is such a beautiful, wonderful thing, and there's no telling what can come about when creative minds come together. I hope the future holds plenty more of such innovations!
<iframe width="480" height="295" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/2lXh2n0aPyw?fs=1" frameborder="0"allowFullScreen="">Katherine Squierhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18288884451504519640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2834384025683879676.post-44858247980132979952011-03-15T00:10:00.009-05:002011-04-25T19:29:45.006-05:00SXSW Music begins...i have a music badge & i'm super excited but also feeling conflicted in who i'm going to choose & who i will have to leave out---there are so many amazing bands/artists to see. it's so wonderful, what happens to this city during the festival. austin becomes one huge party all the time, not even in the everyone-getting-drunk-sense (but there is definitely plenty more of that too), but that everyone is happy & celebrating. SXSW Music kicks off today, the 15th, with some great bands playing & below is a video from a band i plan on seeing.
Dry The River- Bible Belt

"if it's dark outside, you light the fire yourself." --so, so good.Katherine Squierhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18288884451504519640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2834384025683879676.post-72456576163645069722011-03-09T00:12:00.001-06:002011-03-14T00:08:49.341-05:00You Only Live Once (Demo) - The StrokesKatherine Squierhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18288884451504519640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2834384025683879676.post-13887569727489333692011-03-03T18:36:00.010-06:002011-12-20T13:04:04.414-06:00Labi Siffre - Bless The TelephoneKatherine Squierhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18288884451504519640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2834384025683879676.post-74736331048069567862011-02-22T11:38:00.005-06:002011-03-14T16:06:57.869-05:00Anthemby Leonard Cohen

The birds they sang
at the break of day
Start again
I heard them say
Don't dwell on what
has passed away
or what is yet to be.
Ah the wars they will
be fought again
The holy dove
She will be caught again
bought and sold
and bought again
the dove is never free.
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.
We asked for signs
the signs were sent:
the birth betrayed
the marriage spent
Yeah the widowhood
of every government --
signs for all to see.
I can't run no more
with that lawless crowd
while the killers in high places
say their prayers out loud.
But they've summoned, they've summoned up
a thundercloud
and they're going to hear from me.
Ring the bells that still can ring ...
You can add up the parts
but you won't have the sum
You can strike up the march,
there is no drum
Every heart, every heart
to love will come
but like a refugee.
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.
That's how the light gets in.
That's how the light gets in.Katherine Squierhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18288884451504519640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2834384025683879676.post-7243588800955033552011-02-14T23:17:00.003-06:002011-06-09T22:18:09.521-05:00Yes:
"The main things which seem to me important on their own account, and not merely as means to other things, are knowledge, art, instinctive happiness, and relations of friendship or affection." -Bertrand RusselKatherine Squierhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18288884451504519640noreply@blogger.com0
